Brian Viloria downplays Roman Gonzalez’ unbeaten career record

Gonzalez is riding on a record of 43 wins in his pro career spanning 10 years since he turned pro in 2005. He is also a known knockout artist, having disposed 37 of his 43 opponents by way of knockout.

But Viloria is not impressed with Gonzalez’ accomplishments saying he didn’t see anything new in his recent fights.

“I’ve looked at tapes of him. I really didn’t see anything I haven’t seen before,” Viloria said with a shrug. Is Gonzalez in part the product of hype? “I think he is. I don’t think he’s ever been tested the way I’ll test him in October.

Viloria, who is training for this fight under Freddie Roach and Marvin Somodio said he will be training hard for this fight having in mind his reported endurance problem.

“I will train really hard and we will pull out all the stops and bring in a strength and conditioning coach,” said Viloria, who has won four straight fights since losing to Juan Francisco Estrada in 2013. Read more:

Viloria is coming off an opening round knockout win against Omar Soto last July 25, his third successive knockout victory in his last four fights.

“Although a lot of people are talking about the age of Viloria, We cannot forget that he is a very dangerous man whos has experience, hits hard, has an excellent combinations. He will be coming to fight. I do not think Viloria will run, because he is under pressure to leave a good image to HBO,” said Gonzalez’ trainer Arnulfo Obando. It’s a difficult fight, he added.

Gonzalez is coming off a second round TKO win against Edgar Sosa at The Forum, Inglewood, California last May 16.

The Gonzalez-Viloria fight will be featured in the Golovkin-Limieux fight at Madison Square Garden, New York, New York.

At stake is Gonzalez’ WBC and The Ring Flyweight titles.
