Boston Red Sox Rumors: David Price top free agent target?

Last winter the front office failed to add a front-line ace and it showed this year. The Red Sox need to add an ace to their pitching staff and with plenty of options available through free agency, making the right moves in the next few months could pay big dividends next season.

Rumors have already started and while every team with pitching needs will go after David Price, Boston is one of the few franchises that have the money to make a serious run at the veteran lefty.

The latest from Bleacher Report suggests the team should just back an armored car into his driveway and pay him exactly what he wants. The 30-year-old is 6-1 during his career at Fenway Park with an impressive 1.95 ERA.

With an 18-5 mark this season, the [url=http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/priceda01.shtml?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.baseballessential.com t=_blank]former first round draft pick of Tampa Bay has a career record of 104-56 with an ERA just over 3.00. The veteran has plenty of experience in the AL East and despite his troubles in the postseason, would give the Red Sox that true number one starter they need to compete for a spot in the playoffs in 2016.

Baseball Essential has also reported Zack Greinke could be a target when free agency hits later this year. The 32-year-old was 19-3 with the LA Dodgers and just opted out of his contract. The right-handed pitcher is among the best in baseball and his postseason experience makes him a solid option if that’s the direction the organization decides to go in the coming months.

No matter what this franchise does over the winter, adding a stud pitcher is a must or this franchise will flounder again next year. Past mistakes should lead to better decision-making and that should have the Red Sox back in the thick of things in 2016.
