article imageBob Arum to stage his 2,000th event as boxing promoter Saturday

Boxing prompter Bob Arum is set to stage his 2,000th boxing event on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in Paradise, Nevada.
The 84-year-old promoter chose elite boxers Nicholas Walters and Vasyl Lomchenko to highlight his 2,000th boxing event since his career shift from being a lawyer to a boxing promoter more than 50 years ago.
Arum speaks highly of both Lomachenko and Walters, who are all set to clash on Saturday night at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for the WBO junior lightweight title.
"This is my 2000th event and this fight is worthy of being my 2,000th event. Nicholas Walters is the hardest puncher in these divisions — they don’t call him the “Axe Man” for nothing and he always give 100 percent. And Vasyl Lomachenko is an unbelievable technician who has done really the impossible, winning world titles in two divisions in a record-few seven professional fight;" Arum said.
"So I look for a Fight of the Year candidate on Saturday night at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and everybody can watch it live on HBO in addition to the replay of the controversial fight from Saturday between Kovalev and Ward. And what I think is the Fight of the Year candidate Lomachenko vs. Walters. I'm a big fan of both guys. I think Walters is a tremendous fighter and I enjoy the way he fights," Arum added.
Arum made a name in the boxing promotions business when he handled the promotion of big time boxing greats including Muhammad Ali, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns, George Foreman, Evvander Holyfield and Sugar Ray Leonard, among others.
In the late 90's to the early 2000's Arum became even more popular with the staging of big fight cards featuring great boxers including Oscar de la Hoya, Erik Morales, Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao, among others.
"I am absolutely thrilled that this fight between Lomachenko and Walters will be my 2000th boxing event and will definitely be a candidate for Fight of the Year with two great fighters. The HBO telecast will begin at 10:35 p.m. ET / 10:30 p.m. PT. The Kovalev-Ward replay will also be part of the HBO telecast. That fight’s scoring was very controversial so if you haven’t seen it this is your chance." said Arum, who is celebrating his birthday on December 8.
"Then watch the Fight of the Year, I believe, between Lomachenko and Walters. There were only 60 tickets left this morning at The Cosmopolitan and it will probably be sold out by the end of today so the best way to see the fight, if you don’t have a ticket, is on HBO," he added.
Walters is unbeaten in his 27-fight career and is coming off a majority decision win against Jason Sosa last year at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York.
Lomachenko has a very impressive amateur career having won two gold medals in the Olympics in both the lightweight and featherweight divisions. As a pro, Lomachenko has won six of his seven fights.
