Manny Pacquiao vs Amir Khan fight in Dubai looms

Arum has tapped Akbar Muhammad of Akbar Productions to make arrangements for the fight which includes a possible appearance by boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

Before the planned big event next year, Arum is putting together a big card that could include at least three title fights as prelude to the proposed Pacquiao-Khan fight next year.

“Right now we are planning November event. Hopefully Manny will come to it as a guest. We will have three of four title fights on the same night. It will be a spectacular event. If it is successful we will look forward to doing a Pacquiao fight in Dubai next year,” said Arum in an exclusive interview with Emirates 24|7 from his home in California.

Arum speaks of his boxing adventure in China which produced a series blockbuster events featuring Pacquiao and some of the world’s elite fighters.

The veteran promoter isn’t leaving China, saying his company is working on a big card there as part of his ongoing efforts to revive the sport in the world’s biggest marketplace.

“What my company (Top Rank) has done is a testament to how boxing can be popularized in the largest country in the world. And I think with this event in Dubai, boxing will reach new levels of popularity in Dubai,” Arum said

Capitalizing on Pacquiao’s global popularity, Arum believes the planned Dubai event will be another spectacular presentation. He recalled how Pacquiao made boxing popular in China in tandem with Chinese Olympian Zou Shiming.

“Manny is also an adventurer. I proposed to him to fight in Macau. He was very taken with it. Both (fights) were very successful. He has always talked to me about fighting in Dubai. He always talked to me about it. He had visited Dubai. You got to understand so many Filipinos work in that area, so he feels at home being over there,” he added.

Pacquaio is currently recuperating from his shoulder injury stemming from recent surgery in the US to fix his torn shoulder rotator cuff. His orthopedic doctor said it would take him from six to nine months to fully recover.

Khan is all set for his fight against former Pacquiao foe Chris Algieri this Friday at the Barclays Center in Broklyn, New York.
