Bob Arum bares shortlist of Pacquiao’s opponents for return fight

Arum’s shortlist contains the names of Amir Khan, Kell Brook and Terence Crawford. Surprisingly the list didn’t include Floyd Mayweather, Jr., who has just tied Rocky Marciano’s 49-0 career record last weekend with a unanimous decision win against Andre Berto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

Mayweather fought Pacquiao to a unanimous decision win last May 2 in a super fight that broke all pay-per-view records in boxing history.

Boxing fans have been clamoring for a Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch following the discovery of banned IV infusion on Mayweather one day before his fight with Pacquiao last May.

Pacquiao said Mayweather should give him a rematch on account of his violation of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules. Pacquiao said he wants the rematch on equitable terms and conditions in order to assure the public of a clean fight and for all to know who indeed is the better fighter between them.

Asked why Mayweather isn’t included in the list, Arum said he learned that Mayweather is retiring after his fight against Adre Berto.

“Mayweather? He said he’s going to retire,” said Arum, who has been urging Pacquiao to see his orthopedic doctor in Los Angeles for his post-surgery examination.

“I can’t arrange Manny’s next fight until the doctor sees him,” Arum told Nick Giongko of Tempo.

Khan (31-3-0, 19 KOs), who hails from Bolton, England, is the current WBC silver welterweight champion has won five straight fights since losing by TKO against Danny Garcia in 2012.

The 26-year-old Olympic silver medalist is coming off a unanimous decision win against Chris Algieri last May 29 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Brook (36-0-0, 24 KOs) is unbeaten in 36 fights. He is the current IBF welterweight champion. The 29-year-old fighter from Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England is coming off a TKO win against Frankie Gavin last May. He is set to face Diego Chavez on Oct. 24 in Sheffield England.

Crawford (26-0-0-, 18 KOs) is the current WBO light welterweight champion and unbeaten in 26 pro fights. The 27-year old titlist from Omaha, Nebraska is fresh off a TKO win against Thomas Dulorme last April at the College Park Center, Dallas, Texas.

Pacquiao, who is still recuperating from his shoulder injury, has stated that he is recovering faster that expected and will soon travel to the US to see his doctor.
