Big Ten Football: Updated power rankings heading into week five

With six schools still undefeated, breaking down the conference is getting tougher, but after four weeks of action, Ohio State is still on top of the power rankings, but the Badgers are closing the gap.

The Buckeyes had a bye on Saturday and play Rutgers this week. With the Scarlet Knights have played well and sit at 2-2 on the year, there lack of offense will be their undoing when they play the second ranked team in the nation.

Wisconsin has climbed to second in several experts minds, but the true test will come this weekend when they face Michigan. This is a true playoff game with the loser on the outs in making the NCAA Football playoffs and likely done with their hopes of winning a Big Ten title in 2016.

The Wolverines offense has been special, scoring over 40 points in every game and they will need to continue that success at home on Saturday. Defense will be key, but the team that can move the ball and control the clock will be the victors and Michigan should remain unbeaten when the clock strikes :00 in Ann Arbor.

While all eyes have been on these three programs, Nebraska has quietly but together a 4-0 record, including a win over the Oregon Ducks. The Cornhuskers host Illinois this weekend and another win, which should happen and this program could start closing in on a top-10 ranking.

Minnesota and Maryland are both 3-0 and despite playing any ranked opponents, they need to be taking seriously. The Golden Gophers offense has been solid this season and that could make them dangerous as the 2016 season moves forward. The Terrapins host Purdue and its likely both schools could enter week six without a loss.

This conference is now ranked as the best in the nation and with three programs now inside the top-10, it’s hard to argue, sorry SEC fans, but until proven wrong, the Big Ten is tops in the land and making plenty of headlines through the early stages of the 2016 college football season.
