Big Ten Football: Power rankings and standings after week two

Ohio State is ranked fourth in the country and number one on the latest power rankings of the conference. The Buckeyes didn’t disappoint, despite some issues with the weather as they defeated Tulsa 48-3, improving to 2-0 on the year and setting up a big game next weekend against Oklahoma.

Michigan is rolling offensively as the Wolverines put 51 points on the scoreboard in their victory over Central Florida, but the defense isn’t playing too shabby either as the team has allowed just 17 points over the first two weeks of the season. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has his team playing with grit and toughness and it shows in the college football rankings as the team now sits fifth in the nation.

Wisconsin followed up their big win over LSU last week with an impressive 54-10 victory over Akron. The Badgers defense has played extremely well to being the 2016 season and with some help from the offense, this team could climb the polls quickly, but it won’t be easy as they travel to Michigan State and Michigan to open Big Ten play in two weeks time.

These aren’t the only schools off to a quick start as six other programs have started the year 2-0. Iowa, Nebraska, and Maryland have been the most impressive of the bunch, but don’t look past the Spartans or Indiana as the season rolls along.

Despite all the high points, including a recent report that the conference is now tops in the nation, it’s not all good. Northwestern has struggled out of the gate, starting the year 0-2 against Western Michigan and Illinois State. The offense has been the main issue with the team and if they don’t get something figured out quickly, it could be a long year for the Wildcats and their fans.
