Big Ten Football: OSU, Michigan still on top of power rankings

Ohio State and Michigan where both expected to have terrific teams this season and neither have disappointed. The Buckeyes are second in the nation and 5-0 after defeating a good Indiana squad 38-17 Saturday afternoon.

The Buckeyes are tops in the conference power rankings heading into week 7 and on track with the Wolverines for a showdown that will decide the East Division later this year.

Michigan had another big win, topping Rutgers 78-0, reminding experts of the teams that played in the 70’s and 80’s. Jim Harbaugh has done a remarkable job since taking over the program and it appears he has the maize and blue set to contend for a national championship on a regular basis.

While all eyes are on the big two programs, Nebraska has quietly played their way into contention. The Cornhuskers are now ranked 12th in the nation and hold their own destiny in the Big Ten West Division. This weeks bye came at a perfect time with nagging injuries starting to take its toll, but they coaches and team must stay focused on the big picture and a win over Indiana next week would be huge for the school and its fans.

Wisconsin is fourth in the conference and still have title hops of their own. The Badgers also had a bye this past week and are 4-1 on the year with the lone lose a 14-7 defeat at Michigan. This program is exceeded expectations this year, but momentum in college football is a big and that could lead to a special year if they continue to roll with the success they have already had this season.
