Bernabe Concepcion beats Juma Fundi via 2nd round KO

In the opening round, Fundi kept Concepcion at bay with his jabs and body shots preventing Concepcion from getting inside Fundi’s perimeter.

After the initial skirmish, Concepcion opted to bring the fight to Fundi with his offensive jabs that neutralized the the Tanzanian’s offensive stance.

Following a series of snappy jabs, Concepcion found an opening in the second round to launch his vaunted power right hand that found its target on Fundi’s head, dropping the Tanzanian for the count.

Fundi tried to bet the count but he was visibly hurt and with wobbly legs, referee Danrex Tapdasan stopped the fight at 56 seconds of the second round to protect Fundi from further punishment by the raging Concepcion.

Concepcion, who is known for his deadly right hand is coming off three straight victories and a draw before beating Fundi on Friday since losing to Mikey Garcia by TKO in 2012.

“I am happy at what I saw with Bernabe Concepcion’s performance and handling Juma Fundi’s jabs. I also noticed that Fundi’s punches were hard,” Concepcion’s manager Ryan Gabriel said after the fight.

With the win, Concepcion raised his record to 33-6-2,19 KOs and increased his chances of winning a major world title this year or early next year.

Fundi, who has fought twice in the Philippines, dropped to 27-13-3, 11 KOs following his KO loss to Concepcion.
