Ortiz went into Bellator 142 with a two-fight winning streak, but he ended up losing. McGeary defeated Ortiz in the first round of the fight after he submitted Ortiz. This marked the first time since 1999 that Ortiz has lost a fight via submission.
Before McGeary slipped on an inverted triangle choke, a submission, Ortiz was controlling the fight. Ortiz had McGeary on the ground and he manage to escape McGeary’s armbar attempt. However, when Ortiz found himself defending against another attempt at an armbar, that was when McGeary got him in the inverted triangle choke. Ortiz had no choice but to tap out.
After the fight, Ortiz said he worked very hard for his camp, and he gave his heart and soul for more than 18 years in the sport of MMA and inside the cage. He praised McGeary, saying that the champion showed that he was a real man.
Ortiz also said he was angry at his performance and that he gave it his best. He told McGeary he had the best and he beat the best, which is why he is the champion.
As for McGeary, he didn’t say a lot after his performance. He said that he worked on his wrestling and he is going to be unstoppable.
There is no word on whether Ortiz will return and continue fighting. McGeary on the other hand, will defend his title against Phil Davis at an undisclosed place and time.
