Sydney - Despite England coming into this Ashes series as favorites, having beaten Australia 3-0 in England mid-2013, Australia has won the 2013-14 Ashes series and reclaimed the Ashes with a 5-0 whitewash.
England was comprehensively beaten in every game despite coming into the series as favorites. This is only the third whitewash in Ashes history.
Australia won the first test in Brisbane by 381 runs, the second test in Adelaide by 218 runs, the third test in Perth by 150 runs, the fourth in Melbourne by eight wickets and the last test in Sydney by 281 runs.
England captain Alastair Cook said "We left everything out there, but at the end of the day we weren't good enough.” Throughout the series Australian batsmen scored ten centuries while only one English century was scored. Likewise in an attempt to find form England cycled through 18 players through the series whilst Australia used the same team throughout. On their whitewash victory Australian captain Michael Clarke said "this series is an indication of the hard work the guys have put in in the last 12 months. They deserve the reward of winning 5-0."
