The three possible opponents are Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia and Terence Crawford. Thurman and Garcia are under contract with Al Haymon, who acts as their manager and adviser while Crawford is undercontract with Top Rank.
Arum and Haymon have just reconciled after figuring in a court battle involving their companies. The lawsuit was settled amicably out of court.
“We look at Haymon as a guy who manages a lot of good fighters and if any of them would fit as opponents for our guys, we’d be interested in talking,” Arum told Yahoo Sports. “There is no animosity between us. The door is open. The fact that we’re doing the pay-per-view ourselves takes the network equation out of it and makes it that much simpler to make a deal,” Arum said
After their reconciliation, Arum tried to match Pacquiao against Adrien Broner, who is also one of Haymon’s fighters but Arum claimed that Broner had priced himself out which prompted him to sign up Vargas for Pacquiao’s Nov. 5 ring return.
“A guy like Garcia would be an interesting opponent. Keith Thurman, he would be a possibility. As long as the guys don’t price themselves out, we’d be interested. Haymon and I worked hard to try to get [Adrien] Broner for this [Nov. 5] fight. We’re open to putting Manny in the fights the public wants to see and we’re not closing any doors.” Arum added.
Arum did not include Floyd Mayweather in his advanced shortlist of Pacquiao’s possible opponents, saying Mayweather has already retired and has yet to make an announcement of his ring return.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao is winding down his training in Manila to move over to Wild Card Gym in Hollywood on Saturday for the final phase of his training.
