Arthur Abraham stakes WBO title against unbeaten Gilberto Ramirez

Abraham (44-4-0, 29 KOs), is coming off a split decision win over Martin Murray last November to retain his WBO middleweight title.

The 35 year-old Armenian, who now resides in Germany after acquiring German citizenship in 2006 has won eight straight fights since losing to Robert Stieglitz via TKO in 2013.

Abraham has been fighting in Germany since losing to Andre Ward in 2011. He will be fighting in Las Vegas for the first time in his career.

“I love to box in my native Germany,” said Abraham, “but the offer to compete in Las Vegas, on the biggest stage in the world, was something neither my promoter nor I could possibly refuse,” he added.

While Abraham is favored to win on account of his high KO rating and ring experience—having fought 44 times since turning pro in 2003—he would be in for a tough battle against Ramirez, who is unbeaten in his pro career.

Ramirez, who hails from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico has a spotless record of 33 wins with 24 coming by way of knockout.

As the mandatory challenger, Ramirez is motivated to preserve his unblemished record and to become Mexico’s first middleweight champ.

“I have added motivation to win this fight because it means more than just winning a world title,” Ramirez said through translator Ricardo Jimenez. “Obviously, I do know what this is — it’s an opportunity to make history.”

The 24 year-old Mexican southpaw has a five-inch advantage in height at 6’3″ over Abraham’s 5’10.” Likewise Ramirez has a superior reach at 78″ against Abraham’s 72 inches.
