With success comes an even closer look at what went wrong at the end of the year and much of the problems in the playoffs centers around the offensive line, most notably right tackle Bobby Massie, who struggled against the better pass rushers in the league and slipped a notch in his play against the Panthers and their win over Green Bay.
Massie allowed eight of the 25 total sacks on quarterback Carson Palmer and an upgrade is needed if this franchise wants to win its first Super Bowl.
The free agent market opens in just a few days and rumors have already started on potential upgrades. Bleacher Report columnist Kristopher Knox has suggested that the front office makes a move for the former Cleveland Browns starter Mitchell Schwartz, who has started all 64 games since entering the league back in 2012.
Schwartz was graded as the sixth best offensive tackle last season by Pro Football Focus, which takes grading on pass and run blocking, along with durability. His signing would be an immediate upgrade at the tackle position and allow the front office to use the NFL Draft to find help and depth at other areas of need.
Another area of concern is depth in the secondary as the Cards’ are set to lose two corners from last years roster. Veteran Adam Jones has played at a high level for years and his presence would help offset the lose of Jerraud Powers and Corey White.
This team doesn’t need much to reach the next level, but keeping Palmer on his feet and keeping the defensive strong are priorities and these two players could help the team reach their ultimate goal of winning a championship in 2016.
