article imageArizona Cardinals: Fitzgerald thoughts and latest camp news

By Larry Seely     Aug 1, 2016 in Sports
Phoenix - Arizona scored a franchise record 489 points last season and with every offensive player that scored last year returning, many NFL experts are picking the Cardinals to represent the NFC in the 2017 Super Bowl.
With training camp now open, a few stories have hit social media over the weekend. Larry Fitzgerald made headlines when he told reporters that training camp stinks. Despite these comments, the veteran wide receiver also knows that repetition leads to success; and after winning 13 games last year, only one thing matters now: winning a championship.
The defensive backs made some comments that got some media attention. Corner Patrick Peterson has put the pressure on newcomer Chandler Jones with a statement that he believes the linebacker can achieve 20 sacks this season. Safety Tyrann Mathieu agreed with that quote, but the two star of the Cards' secondary would love that added pressure as it would likely increase the units turnover count in 2016 and it wouldn't hurt their chances of being the best team in the NFC this season.
Every team has training camp battles, one position that could be key to success, and Arizona is no different. With all the success the offensive showed last year, the center position was a weakness and the front office did what it could to strengthen the middle of the offensive line.
A.Q. Shipley was brought in last year and played in nearly every game, making three starts, but this could be the season he takes over the starting job. The 30-year-old has bounced around the league since being taken in the 2009 NFL Draft and now appears ready to handle the larger role.
The Cardinals have other options, including versatile lineman Earl Watford, who can play any position on the line and has gained some valuable experience over the last three years, but don't look past rookie Evan Boehm. The youngster is the future for the team, but with a strong preseason, the front office and coaching staff could deem the future is now.
