Margarito (38-8-0, 27 KOs) has been cleared by his eye doctors to continue his boxing career after undergoing close to four years of eye therapy following his gruesome fight against Manny Pacquiao in 2010.
Margarito’s left eye was severely injured during during the fight which resulted in a fractured orbital bone. Margarito had to undergo a delicate eye surgery following his loss to Pacquiao.
Less than a year after undergoing major eye surgery, Margarito fought Miguel Cotto in a rematch in 2011 but lost via TKO after the ring physician ordered the stoppage of the fight in the 10th round due to severe swelling.
It took Margarito four years to obtain clearance from his eye doctors to resume fighting. Margarito said he wants to do at least two fights before aiming for another title fight.
Late last year Margarito said he wanted to train with Robert Garcia when it is time to do a title fight. In the meantime, he is training in a Gym in San Diego without naming his trainer.
Margarito is still fighting under Top Rank Promotions but the fight will be promoted in Mexico by Zanfer Promotions in collaboration with Top Rank.
Paez, Jr. (33-4-1, 20 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Carlos Ocampo last November. The 28-year-old Mexican stands 5’9″ with a reach of 73.” Although they have the same reach, Margarito has a 2″ height advantage at 5’11.”
