Andre Berto, Lil Wayne share Christmas gifts with Haiti kids

Berto, who lost a lucrative fight against Floyd Mayweather last Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, traces his roots in Haiti where his parents came from.

TMZ.com writes: “Lil Wayne and Andre Berto brought some good holiday vibes to a school in Haiti … giving out tons of toys and Trukfit gear.

Berto, a Haitian-American boxing superstar dropped his gloves for a Santa suit and toys for the kids. That’s not all, Wayne chipped in a bunch of clothing from his Trukfit line … enough shirts, shorts and hats for 500 students in need.

Scholastic Corporation stepped up too … donating 500 books to the kids, the whole thing was brought together by Karen Civil whose parents grew up in the country.”

Berto is one of the sportsmen and entertainers with Haitian roots who regularly visit Haiti since the big earthquake devastation in 2010 that killed over 100,000 people and caused massive damage to infrastructure.

Lil Wayne came with Berto to share his apparel brand Truikfit to the kids.

A native of New Orleans, Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., is a popular rapper who made a fortune in his kind of music that sold over 100 million records worldwide.

In 2012, he launched Trukfit, a brand of apparel that traces its beginning to his early days as a kid who did not have much to spare on clothing.

“When I was younger in New Orleans, just how people would go to Macy’s…and buy designer clothing…there was a truck that would come around the neighborhood for the less-fortunate people that couldn’t go to those stores, and he would have those same items — those Polo’s, those Tommy’s — you’d buy it from him for less. If you were known to have that outfit, then it was not called an ‘outfit’, it was called a ‘truckfit.’” said Lil’ Wayne in his Trukfit website.

For its part, Scholastic Coroporation, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, donated 500 books to the kids.
