The Swans’ victory has moved them to second on the ladder, but in the eyes of most footy experts, first in this week’s power rankings, four spots higher than reported last week by Michael DiFabrizio of Roar.
North wasn’t the only team in the top eight to suffer a lose this week as Geelong and Greater Western Sydney both went down on the road. For the Cats, it was their first ever lose to Carlton at Ethiad Stadium and dropped the squad to third.
The Giants have been playing some great football, but the long trip to Adelaide and a tough contest against a talented Crows squad was just too much of an ask, dropping GWS to fourth in the standings with a 7-3 mark.
West Coast had a big 77 point win over the struggling Gold Coast, that massive victory moved the Eagles into the fifth spot on the ladder by percentage, overtaking the Western Bulldogs, who despite a tough win over Collingwood, dropped a spot to sixth in the league.
Hawthorn is the fifth side with a 7-3 record after a win at Brisbane. The Hawks aren’t playing like a team that has won three straight Premierships, but injuries and off field issues have made it a difficult start to the 2016 AFL season.
Adelaide remains eighth overall after the win at home and it finally appears as if Taylor Walker is finally playing the way coaches and fans want. The team captain struggled earlier in the year, but has two straight solid contests and that could spell bad news for the rest of the league moving forward.
With all the talk of Melbourne and Carlton playing well, these clubs will still need to show more consistency and hope the injury bug doesn’t hit, but for 10 weeks of the year, these two sides have brought hope to their fans and excitement to the league with a solid start to the season.
