Broner is wanted on charges of felonious assault and aggravated robbery after he and his friend and associate, Christopher Carson, had an altercation about money matters that led to Broner attacking Carson after losing $14,000 in bowling bets back in January.
Broner is defending his WBA light welterweight title against Theophane over the weekend and the live arrest warrant could be a major training distraction leading up to fight night.
While the arrest warrant is can be served only in the Ohio area where the incident happened, It can become a psychological setback for Broner, who is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio as he can’t return there after the fight without posting a $100,000 bail bond.
Broner is coming off a TKO win against Khabib Allakhverdiev last year at the U.S. Bank Arena, Cincinnati, Ohio to snatch the vacant WBA Light Welterweight title.
Theophane ( 39-6-1, 11 KOs) is unbeaten in six straight fights since losing to Pablo César Cano via a split decision in September 2013 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.
Theophane is a huge underdog leading up to this weekend fight despite having faced elite fighters that include Danny Garcia, DeMarcus Corley, Pablo César Cano and Steve Upsher Chambers, among others. But If he wins against Broner, it will be his first major title in his professional career.
