2017 NFL Mock Draft: Updated first round projections

While quarterbacks are usually a premium, after this year’s combine, it now appears unlikely that any signal caller will hear his name early in the first round. North Carolina youngster Mitchell Trubisky is the top rated signal caller and will be a first round pick, but where he lands is still a guess and the rumor mill is running wild with speculation on where he will land.

Walter football, a leading expert on the whole draft process, has the young man heading to Cleveland —not with the number one overall selection, but rather later in the opening round. This would allow the Browns front office to select Myles Garrett, who wowed scouts will his performance in last months combine and is ranked as the top overall prospect in this years class of players.

San Francisco was also linked in reports to select a quarterback, but its more likely the 49ers will use free agency to grab a player with experience to help turn things around more quickly. With the second overall pick, it now appears defensive end Soloman Thomas from Stanford is the target and a player that definitely fits a need for the franchise.

Things could get interesting when Chicago takes the clock with the third pick. Rumors of a potential trade have hit social media and with the Bears saying Jay Cutler is done in the windy city, moving down in the first round could be the right move, especially if they can deal for a veteran to take Cutler’s spot on the roster.

DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame was hyped all season, but the Irish struggled and the quarterback took a hit in the player rankings. Kizer is still a possible first round pick, especially if a team like Arizona or Pittsburgh decide to draft for the future, but he’s one of the players linked in possible trade talks when Chicago takes the clock and he could jump into the top-3 if a team becomes desperate.
