2017 NFL Mock Draft: First round projections and analysis

Cleveland is once again in turmoil as the Browns won just a single game this season and earned the right to select first overall in April. This franchise has struggled since its return to the league and must find the talent to turn things around.

While some experts believe this franchise will take another quarterback, most now think defense is the answer and pass rush specialist Myles Garrett of Texas A&M is the answer. The youngster had another terrific year with the Aggies and is ranked as the top available player in this years draft class, but the front office hasn’t been known for making the best decisions and that could make for some interesting moments when this team takes the clock with the first selection.

San Francisco has made another change at head coach and that usually means a change at quarterback. This year’s crop of talent is interesting with three players battling for that top grade. Walter Football has DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame as the best option, but he failed to lead the Irish to a bowl game in 2016 and could need a strong showing at the NFL Combine to change some minds.

Chicago picks third and many believe it’s time to move on from Jay Cutler. Mitch Trubinsky of North Carolina has the arm, size, and smarts front offices look for in a player. The Tar Heels signal caller has skyrocketed up the draft boards this season with his strong play and the Bears could make him the third overall pick if they decide to make a change under center.

The NY Jets and Buffalo Bills are two other teams that could make a change after a disappointing year. Pat Mahomes of Texas Tech and Deshaun Watson are next in the quarterback rankings. Mahomes is more of a pocket passer and Watson did everything in leading Clemson to a National Championship, but with both franchises having several holes to fill this off-season, it will make for some intriguing stories heading into this years draft.
