The biggest news was the injury to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, a big loss for the team as they had high-hopes of contending for the NFC East in 2016, but as one door closes, another opens and the hope of the team now rides on the shoulders of rookie signal caller Dak Prescott.
Dallas will host Houston on Thursday night and while its not clear how much time the youngster will see against the Texans, finding a new backup is a priority and if the latest rumors are true, a veteran could be added to the mix, just in case more experience is needed during the upcoming football season.
San Francisco is still searching for a starter behind center. Blaine Gabbery and Colin Kaepernick will get one final chance to impress new head coach Chip Kelly this week as the 49ers travel south to play at San Diego. This is a big week for both signal callers and could be the week one of these two veterans earns the job and becomes the leader this offense desperately needs.
Another quarterback battle is taking place in Denver, but it now appears veteran Mark Sanchez is out of the race. The Broncos didn’t play the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback in their win over the LA Rams this weekend, making it a two man race with youngsters Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch looking to lead the defending NFL champions.
Denver travels to Arizona to face the Cardinals, a good test for the two young men and the final chance for both to impress the coaching staff. Whoever guides this football team in 2016 will have added pressure, but with a solid defense and good running game, limiting mistakes will be the number one priority.
