2016 NFL Fantasy Football: Updated running back rankings

While running backs have dropped in popularity due to the passing game taking over the league, having the right players at this position can go along ways towards winning a league championship and getting bragging rights over friends and colleagues. Here’s the latest player rankings for the position and a couple late round options that could become useful during bye weeks or in case on injures.

With Teddy Bridgewater going down with injury, Minnesota will rely heavily on Adrian Peterson. The veteran is already regarded as a top-3 back, but now he could be used even more and for owners with a chance to draft the Vikings star, take him early and enjoy the points.

Todd Gurley is another player expected to carry the ball early and often this season, especially with the lack of wide receiver options on the LA Rams roster. The youngster made headlines with his play last year and that was without a training camp. Look for Gurley to play a bigger role in the offense this season and that makes the former Georgia star a good pickup in the first round.

For those fantasy football owners who wait until the middle or late rounds to fill the position, several intriguing candidates are available. Matt Forte is still one of the better duel-threat running backs in the league and despite playing for a new team in 2016, look for the veteran to have a solid year with the NY Jets.

For those looking for depth towards the end of their draft, DeAngelo Williams of Pittsburgh is a good choice. The veteran will start the first three games with the suspension of Le’Veon Bell in Pittsburgh and with his ability to play a big role as a third down option, Williams will get plenty of playing time this year, making him a late round steal if available.
