2016 NBA Mock Draft: Updated first round projections and analysis

Philadelphia is on the clock with the first overall selection next month, but the 76ers are in no hurry to tell the world which player they will take with that pick. Plenty of rumors and speculation will hit social media in the coming weeks as the front office decides between Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram, the two top-rated prospects in the latest player rankings.

The LA Lakers are the most anxious squad as the purple and gold would love to add Simmons to their roster. The youngster from LSU has been compared to LeBron James, but his lack of polish on the offensive end of the court has raised some eyebrows.

Boston is next and this is where the fun could begin. The Celtics have too many picks this year, including three in the first round. General manager Danny Ainge would love to trade a few picks for a star player, preferably a big body to play in the paint and if a deal is happening, it will likely start here.

Phoenix also has three picks in the opening round, but unlike Boston, the Suns need the young talent. CBS Sports has the front office taking small forward Jaylen Brown of Cal, a youngster who is versatile enough to play at least two positions on the floor and a scoring threat on the wing, something this squad has lacked for a couple of years.

Minnesota rounds out the top-5 and this pick has NBA experts intrigued. The Timberwolves need help everywhere and can’t reach for a player like Dragan Bender, despite his upside, so look for the franchise to add depth in the back court with guard Kris Dunn of Providence or Oklahoma star Buddy Hield.
