The running game has been disappointing with Lamar Miller failing to become the star back the team needs, but problems on the offensive line is partly to blame and both positions could be addressed in the 2016 NFL Draft.
Walter Football has Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott as the top option next April. The youngster runs inside, outside, and is a real threat in the passing game and while the position isn’t necessarily the best to use a first round pick on, this franchise needs a play maker in the back field and Elliot is tops in the latest player rankings.
If the front office decides to use its top choice on the offensive line, look for tackle Taylor Decker of Ohio State to get the nod. Big, fast, and with a mean streak, this youngster could hold down the line for the next decade and help the running game take that next step needed to become a real contender in the AFC.
Despite allowing just 20 points per game, the defense needs help on the line and in the secondary. The latest mocks have corner Cameron Sutton of Tennessee as a second round option, but with Dion Jordan failing to produce, don’t be surprised to see a defensive end with pass rushing skills as the selection.
Shawn Oakman of Baylor is a good choice, but don’t look past Michigan State youngster Shilique Calhoun, who has played against better competition and has a bigger upside with his strength and overall foot speed.
This team has added several veterans over the past two years, but they have failed to take this team to a higher level. It’s time to use youth to fill needs and while the first two rounds are important, with so many holes on both sides of the ball, the Miami Dolphins need a strong showing through all seven rounds to begin the climb to a division title.
