2016 College Football Recruiting: Buckeyes on top in rankings

While these games will help pay the bills, National Signing Day is just a few weeks off and these players will be the future for a few programs — hopefully the players they need to win a National Championship.

In the latest recruiting news, Ohio State is leading the charge. Head coach Urban Meyer and his staff have 18 verbal commitments, including 12 four-star high school players, the most of any program in the nation.

The biggest name on the list is five-star defensive end Nick Bosa of Florida. At 6’4″ and 255 pounds, this youngster is expected to step on the field next season in Columbus and help continue the defensive dominance the Buckeyes displayed in 2015.

Yahoo Sports has LSU from the SEC as the second ranked recruiting class in the nation. The Tigers have 17 verbals, including nine four-star athletes ready to continue their career with the ‘Bayou Bengals’.

Head coach Les Miles has concentrated on the defensive side of the ball with 11 of those recruits looking to stop opposing offenses during their tenure at the school.

The biggest surprise of 2016 is Stanford of the PAC 12. The Cardinals are third in the latest rankings with 20 players ready to begin their college football career in Palo Alto.

Five-star linebacker Curtis Robinson leads the way, but quarterback K.J. Costello could be the name that is best known when his career at the school is finished.

Alabama and Michigan round out the top-5 with both schools adding a terrific group of youngsters. The Crimson Tide have been among the best in recruiting since the arrival of head coach Nick Saban, but winning championships also helps.

The Wolverines are expected to make some big moves in the coming years with Jim Harbaugh now in charge and that could lead to several big NCAA College Football games between the Big 10 and the SEC in the coming years.
