Ottawa lost to Edmonton in last year’s Grey Cup, but the RedBlacks are playing like the best team in league after four weeks. Last years runner-ups are leading the East Division with a 3-0-1 mark and on top of the latest power rankings.
While Ottawa is the only team without a loss, they aren’t the only squad playing good football. The BC Lions are also off to a hot start with a 3-1 mark and on top of the West Division. With the top defensive unit in the league, having allowed just 18 points per game, the Lions can’t be counted out in any game they play this year.
The updated power rankings at CFL.ca are still giving the Eskimos the benefit of the doubt, ranked second overall, despite allowing over 30 points per game to start the year. Edmonton does have one of the best offenses in the game, and it appears they will need all the points they can get if they want to win back-to-back championships.
Calgary is one of the teams singled out to have a big year and despite a 1-1-1 start, the Stampeders look the part of a real contender. Sitting third in the West, Calgary plays Winnipeg this weekend. A victory will help build some much-needed momentum and hopefully catapult this team to bigger and better things as the season moves forward.
Hamilton and Toronto are both 2-2 to start the 2016 campaign and tied for second in the East. The Ti-Cats are the biggest surprise, despite not having won a home contest, but don’t look past the Argonauts who can score on anyone and could put together a good winning streak if the defense comes together.
While still early in the year, fans have been treated to several exciting games and it continues with four games on this week’s schedule, including Hamilton taking to the road to visit Edmonton is what could be the best game in week 5.
