2016 CFL Power Rankings: Edmonton on top heading into preseason

With the start of the preseason just a couple of weeks away, the team will enter this year on top of the power rankings, but with plenty of off season moves around the league, several teams are entering this year with high hopes of knocking Edmonton from off the top of the perch.

Big news was made this week when Oregon Ducks quarterback Vernon Adams was acquired by Montreal from Saskatchewan. The Alouettes traded next year’s first-round draft pick to the Roughriders, a move that has fans of the team buzzing and a deal that should help the team win more than just six games in 2016.

For most of last season Calgary sat on top of the standings in the Western Conference and had several experts predicting a championship. The Stampeders finished the year 14-4 and despite not winning a title, Odds Sharks has the team as the favorites this season, but they will need to get past the loss in last years playoffs to play their best football.

The biggest surprise was no doubt the Redblacks, who in just their second year of football, won the Eastern Conference with a 12-6 mark, including four straight wins to close out the regular season.

Behind the play of veteran quarterback Henry Burris, the team played some great on both sides of the ball and enter this season with high expectations, like winning just one more game than last year.

Hamilton and Toronto round out the top five in the years first power rankings. Both teams finished the 2015 season 10-8 and are looking to make a run at the CFL Playoffs in 2016.
