2016 CFL Mock Draft: Updated first round projections

Saskatchewan has the first overall pick and most experts believe they will look for a player that could solidify their offensive line. The Calgary Herald has suggested the Roughriders could make a trade to move down in the first round and acquire an additional selection or two, but if not, two players are projected as the top pick.

Josiah St, John of Oklahoma made a big impression at the combine and by most accounts has separated himself from Charles Vaillancourt as the top offensive lineman available. Both of these players are projected as starting material in their first year in the league.

Montreal has the second pick and most likely will take whichever player Saskatchewan passes on with the first selection. The league’s website has suggested another lineman, Jason Lauzon-Seguin, could move into this spot and with the football experts split among these three players, its still anyone’s guess where and with whom these three youngsters will begin their professional football careers.

One thing is clear, it doesn’t appear any quarterbacks will get picked in the first two rounds, but plenty of play makers could get the call.

Juwan Brescacin of Northern Illinois is the top wide receiver in the latest CFL player rankings and a likely first round selection. Hamilton is one team that could use some help on the outside and at 6’3″, a target that would help get the ball in the end zone more often next season.

While the running game isn’t a priority in Canadian football, Mercer Timmis is one player that could hear his name called early in the draft. The young running back has all the tools to become an every-down back in the league and with Winnipeg having two picks in the second round, taking Timmis could help the franchise with depth and a possible future star.
