2015 NHL Mock Draft: Updated first round projections

Any other year and Jack Eichel would enter the league as the top prospect, but the American center will have to settle for number two and unless something big happens in the coming weeks, he will begin his professional career with the Buffalo Sabres — but after these two players, experts are mixed about the next few selections.

Arizona owns the third pick and many expect the Coyotes to take Noah Hanifin, the top defensive player available, but that could change, especially if trade rumors are true. With so many holes to fill and not much depth on the roster, teams like San Jose and Boston could make a move up in the first round, giving Arizona some additional players and draft picks in the process.

The Maple Leafs already made big news this past week with the hiring of head coach Mike Babcock and once they get a new general manager in place, NHL experts will have a better idea of what direction this franchise will take to rebound from their poor showing this past season.

Draft Site has released their latest mock and have Toronto taking Dylan Strome, who played along side McDavid in Erie of the Ontario Hockey League. The young duo were dynamic together and many believe Strome could become a star in the league, but only if he’s surrounded by a good supporting cast.

For those teams looking for help in the net, it appears no prospects in the latest player rankings are projected as first round talent, but two goalies, Ilya Samsonov and Matej Tomek, could sneak into the back half of the opening round if a team is in desperate need of help.

With just a few short weeks until the draft, trades could still reshape the first round and for those franchises that are close to winning a Stanley Cup, this years selections could make the 2015-16 season a year to remember.
