Most teams will use youngsters from the upcoming draft to add depth and build for the future and this years top prospect Connor McDavid continues to show the hockey world why he’s top on the player rankings. The 18-year-old has been on fire during the Ontario Hockey League Playoffs, scoring 42 points in just 15 games, leaving little doubt he’s the player Edmonton will select with the number one overall selection in just a few short weeks.
Last year’s champion LA Kings didn’t make the playoffs this season after a late season collapse, but with a strong off season, look for the California team to make some noise next season. The latest mocks have Los Angeles looking for help on the offensive end of the ice and Kyle Connor is an excellent option.
The 18-year-old center has good size, strong skating skills, and the ability to make those around him play at a higher level, something the Kings need for future success. Many believe the youngster will play college hockey at Michigan, but a year playing at a higher level will only help elevate his game and could have him ready to play in the NHL within the next two years.
Vancouver is out of the race for a title and in need of add younger players. Despite the fact the Canucks won’t pick until late in round one, finding the right player is imperative if this franchise wants to stay in the upper echelon of hockey.
Draft Site has winger Jake DeBrusk as the teams top option, but with recent history showing this franchise needs more size on the blue line, defender Oliver Kylington could be a better option, especially with the age and lack of physicality now on the current roster in Vancouver.
