2015 MLB Power Rankings: Tigers claw to top

The AL holds the top spots with the Detroit Tigers number one overall. With a 9-2 record and a +25 run differential, the Tigers are playing some great baseball, but they can’t relax as fellow AL Central foe Kansas City is right on their heels.

The Royals hold the second-best record in the game at 8-2, including a perfect 4-0 record at home and a Major League leading +31 run differential.

Boston is now third, thanks to an explosive lineup that is averaging just under six runs per game. The Red Sox spent the off season looking to upgrade their lineup and the early reports show the front office did a terrific job in adding talent.

While the American League is holding the top few spots, don’t count out the top teams in the National league just yet. The NY Mets are among the best early stories of the 2015 MLB season with an 8-3 mark. New York wasn’t predicted to challenge for a spot in the post season by most baseball experts, but having allowed just 31 runs on the season has the franchise and its fans looking forward to the rest of the year.

St Louis was widely considered the best team in the league when the year began and the Cardinals aren’t disappointing with a solid 7-3 start. With perhaps the best pitching staff in the N.L. and a solid lineup from top to bottom, the Cards’ figure to challenge for the top spot in the power rankings in the coming weeks.

Another surprise story on the year is Colorado as the Rockies are off to a 7-3 mark and tied with the LA Dodgers for the top spot in the NL West. While experts and fans believed this club would score runs, it’s the pitching staff dominating the early season, having allowed just 32 runs to cross the plate.
