The latest power rankings have two teams from the East Division on top of the ladder, but it’s not the two most experts would have picked before the season began.
Toronto started this season knowing they would play at least the first six games of the year without their starting quarterback, but the Argos are 2-0 and on top after a big 42-40 victory at Saskatchewan over the weekend. Backup signal caller Trevor Harris led his team back in regulation and again in overtime to gain the victory and start the year off 2-0.
While the Argonauts are a great story, the biggest surprise to start the 2015 CFL season is definitely Ottawa. The second-year franchise defeated B.C. 27-16 before a proud home crowd and made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from last to second, but the young Redbacks must keep their heads and continue the hard work that got the team off to a quick start.
Calgary won the Grey Cup last season and started the year with a win, but after a shocking 29-11 defeat at the hands of Montreal, the Stampeders dropped from the top spot and into third in this weeks power rankings. The win for the Alouettes moved them up to sixth this week, but they must now travel to Winnipeg for a week three clash of squads at 1-1 in the latest standings.
Next Monday’s clash between Toronto and Calgary is the highlight game of the week and the winner will likely have the top spot heading into week four. The Stampeders return home and should be favored in the contest, but the upstart Argos will have something to say and could put the mark on the 2015 season with a tough road win over last years champions.
