2014 NBA Power Rankings: Training Camp Edition

By Larry Seely     Oct 5, 2014 in Sports
With summer in the books and training camps set to begin, it's time to take a look at what teams did over the off-season and rank them heading into the 2014-15 NBA season.
While Cleveland made the biggest moves since the end of last year, the Western Conference still has the top teams in the league until someone from the East steps up.
San Antonio won the title last year and have reached the Western Conference three straight years, but the veteran Spurs have yet to win back-to-back championships. With this possibly being Tim Duncan's last year in the league, what better finish to a career then going out on top, but as with every season in basketball, health, luck, and chemistry will play a huge role in how this team finishes the year, but for now, San Antonio is on top of the latest power rankings entering regular season play.
Finding the second best team isn't easy, but the battle appears to be between Oklahoma City and the LA Clippers. The Thunder have the dynamic duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, but health has played a big part in this teams success and it won't be any different in the upcoming basketball season.
Los Angeles has brought some new excitement to the West Coast and despite the off court dramas that followed this team at the end of the 2013-14 season, this team has the players, coaching staff, and now ownership to bring a title to Southern California and a banner that won't have Purple and Gold hanging from the rafters at the Staples Center.
Cleveland is perhaps the top team in the East, but as with every squad that makes big changes to its roster, team chemistry will play an important part to the year. LeBron James and Kevin Love are superstars, but how quickly they learn to play together and create some continuity with the others on the roster will decide if they play with home court advantage in the NBA Playoffs next spring.
