article image2014 NBA Mock Draft: LA Lakers best options in first round?

By Larry Seely     Mar 11, 2014 in Sports
Los Angeles - The front office for the LA Lakers has a major job ahead this summer as the team is suffering through one of its worst seasons in franchise history. With just one pick in the upcoming NBA Draft, GM Mitch Kupchak will need to get the right player.
The good news for the fans and team is Kobe Bryant should be fully healthy next year and with some aging players contracts coming off the books, this squad could look for different in just a few months.
The latest mock from Bleacher Report has Julius Randle as the top option in the first round. The youngster form Kentucky has the size and athleticism to play down low in the paint, but with the play of the point guards on the roster this season, finding a new floor leader could be a bigger priority.
Draft Express has Kupchak taking International star Dante Exum with the top selection. The 18-year-old Australian has terrific size at 6'6" and nearly 200 pounds and the ability to play either position in the back court. With Bryant missing so much time over the last two seasons, adding someone that could add some versatility make sense.
The front office has a lot of work to get this franchise back into a contender. The NBA is deep in talent, especially in the Western Conference and getting this pick right could go along way in rebuilding this proud team and making the Purple and Gold a team to watch next season.
