article image2014 NBA Mock Draft: Best options for LA Lakers

By Larry Seely     Jan 25, 2014 in Sports
Los Angeles - Kobe Bryant going down with another injury isn't the only reason this franchise has struggled the past two years. This team is getting old and needs an influx of younger talent and luckily and with two draft picks, help should be on the way this summer.
This will be the first year in awhile that General Manager Mitch Kupchak will actually have a first round pick and with the struggles of the team this year, it could turn into a top five selection, but no matter where they pick in the first round, plenty of great talent will be available.
Help in the front court appears to be tops on the list of needs and the latest mocks have Indiana center Noah Vonleh as the best option. The freshman has burst onto the college basketball scene and has shown a good knack for scoring and crashing the boards, something that could help Los Angeles if Pau Gasol doesn't return next season.
Another option is Arizona forward Aaron Gordon, who has led the Wildcats to a number one ranking and a force in college basketball. Gordon is terrific on the offensive end of the court and uses his size very well again opponents.
One thing is clear and that is the LA Lakers must use the draft to add talent and not rely on free agency. This team could make a move for a big name star this summer and that along with a couple of talented rookies, could put this team back as a contender in the Western Conference next season.
