Venezuela's notorious president, Hugo Chavez, has accused a US-financed private telephone company he intends to nationalize of taping his conversations.

Chavez decided to nationalize the phone company in question, Compania Anonima Telefones de Venezuela (CANTV), at the close of the two-day Mercosur summit, saying that it has not complied with its social contracts in the past 20 years.
"Who runs it? United States finance and they've used the Venezuelan telephone company to tape my calls," said Chavez, adding "That's the empire, brother."
In the speech done at the two-day summit Chavez proclaimed that the U.S. was throwing what he terms 'its imperialistic weight' around the globe 'with blazing cannons and coups d'etat."
Chavez has taken ever-increasing steps toward socialism since he was re-elected last month, including today's decision to implement "law by decree". He is seen as a threat by the U.S. and he has made no bones about the fact that he does not like the U.S. or its government.
The day after he announced his plans to nationalize the industry, CANTV shares began to drop in value in the NYSE-- almost 40%.
I'm not sure if he's just paranoid or what, but I definitely don't like him anymore after the moves he's made in the past few days.. whatever happened to being a man for the people?
