TJX Cos., which also owns T.J. Maxx and Marshalls in the U.S., discovered last month that its computer system had been hacked. They believe it could be dating back to 2003.
In mid-December they noticed an "unauthorized intrusion" and now the police security advisors in Canada and the U.S. are investigating it. They are concerned that about 20 million customers (2 million Canadian and 18 million T.J. Maxx and Marshalls) around the world could be at risk.
In a statement, TJX Chairman Ben Cammarata said "Our first concern is the potential impact of this crime on our customers, and we strongly recommend that they carefully review their credit card and debit card statements and other account information for unauthorized use,"
If they noticed this in mid-December why didnt they warn people sooner?
