At the launch, Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) was joined by some of Canada's athletes and members of the Canadian Olympic Committee and Para-Olympic Committee.
“Hudson’s Bay is incredibly proud to be a Premier National Partner of the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee...”, said Liz Rodbell, president, Hudson's Bay. “Hudson’s Bay has dressed Team Canada for these Games since 2007 and we remain committed to supporting our athletes. We can’t wait to see what they will accomplish in Toronto this summer.”
The overall look of the team uniforms were inspired by the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag, Rodbell said, using the image of the maple leaf as a design starting point. And the results were stellar with athletes and numerous Olympic committee members.
“Hudson’s Bay have once again hit the mark and delivered a kit that will make our athletes feel confident and empowered as they take on the Americas here in Toronto this summer," said Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee.
“We are so pleased with the clothing collection launched today and with our ongoing partnership with HBC, who are such dedicated supporters of Team Canada and always put the needs of athletes first,” said Gaétan Tardif, President, Canadian Paralympic Committee.
For some of the athletes, the only thing that would prove to be better than wearing their team's uniform, would be the chance to complete its look with a gold medal win.
"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to compete in front of family and friends, I'm very fortunate," said Patrice Dagenais (wheelchair rugby). "Hopefully, some of us will get a gold medal to go with this uniform." Team-mate Cody Caldwell agreed the uniforms "feel great."
But for those watching (and cheering), the public can also purchase key (replica) pieces worn by Team Canada's athletes in HBC stores and online.
A portion of sale proceeds of Pan Am wear will be donated to the Canadian Olypmic Foundation.
