In a place where the Dallas Cowboys call home, it was the place where country music fans and industry gathered to honor their artists. It was the 50th year for the awards and they pulled out all the stops. But, it was Miranda Lambert who won the night.
As usual, the show mixes pop and country, but tonight they honored seven country music stalwarts as well (see earlier parts of story below).
EARLIER: Miranda Lambert has snagged another Female Vocalist of the Year honor at the Academy of Country Music Awards. She has been there, done that. Jason Aldean has won Male Vocalist of the Year as well.
EARLIER: "Platinum" by Miranda Lambert has won Album of the Year to the delight of 70,000 screaming fans at AT&T Stadium in Texas.
EARLIER: The Vocal Group of the Year is Little Big Town and now they can do a little "Day Drinking" as the ACM Awards are being handed out live in Texas on CBS. Florida Georgia Line was welcomed to Texas with a win for Vocal Duo of the Year.
EARLIER: "Automatic" by Miranda Lambert won Song of the Year as the Academy of Country Music Awards are underway in Texas. It was the first award of the night during the live show.
Blake Shelton and Luke Bryan are the hosts. They noted that this set a Guinness Book of World Record as the largest crowd for an award show. However, one must note that many awards shows like the Oscars and Tonys do not let those not associated with the industry in to see their shows.
Plus, the show is at AT&T Stadium in Texas, which features the NFL.
EARLIER: The Academy of Country Music are handing out their awards tonight (April 19), live in Texas. It is the 50th year and with that brings an extended show, and plenty of special awards.
It begins at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CST. Get the winners live right here as it airs on CBS. However, it is on tape delay on the west coast. Miranda Lambert leads all nominees with eight.
Special awards are being out and they involve those in the industry who have taken country music and made it explode over the years. In other words, those who made the ACM Awards a special event.
The Academy of Country Music noted that Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Reba, George Strait, Taylor Swift, and Brooks & Dunn will be honored with the prestigious 50th Anniversary Milestone Award. They will be honored with a special award tonight, noted a release.
Winners put in bold as night goes on. The show is running long on purpose, too.
