Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to be released in second quarter

After months of speculation, Samsung finally announced a pair of new flagship smartphones — the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge — at the 2015 Mobile World Congress.

After last year's Galaxy S5 — considered by experts to be a misstep — Samsung is hoping to right the ship with the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.
The two are a total redesign of the familiar Galaxy brand. Gone is the plastic seen in previous models, replaced with a metal frame and outfitted with hardy Gorilla Glass 4. Both phones run on Android 5.0 Android Lollipop, with 5.1-inch high-resolution screens. The phones have 3 GB of RAM and will feature internal storage of 32, 64 or 128 GB.
Also included is a fingerprint sensor on the home button (replacing the need to swipe across the screen), a 16-megapixel camera and an infrared heart monitor.
However, a few hallmarks of Samsung models are nowhere to be found — no longer are there removable batteries, nor are there microSD slots. As well, the phones aren't waterproof.
While the above features apply to both phones, the Galaxy S6 Edge will look different thanks to its curved edges on both sides. This is a step up from the Galaxy Note Edge, which featured a curve on only one side of the screen. The S6 Edge's curves reportedly won't display the same notifications and ticker feeds like the Note Edge.
The two phones are expected to launch in the second quarter, and there is so far no word on price. The S6 will be available in white, black, gold and blue while the S6 Edge will be available in white, black, gold and green.
Additionally, the two new phones will be compatible with a new version of Samsung's Gear VR headset, which will apparently be 15 percent smaller and with new features like USB charging.
