Spanish-born actress, Penélope Cruz, has been named "Sexiest Woman Alive" for 2014 by the US magazine Esquire. This follows a recent incident of being dubbed "fool of the week" by the US TV channel, Fox News, over her views on the Palestine issue.

Back in July 2014, Spaniards Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem joined a total of 100 members of the Spanish film industry in condemning what they termed the "genocide" happening in the Gaza Strip. For this, Penélope Cruz was derided by Fox News as being the "fool of the week" for her views.
Cruz then wrote a letter to USA Today to clarify her thoughts on the situation, after being branded an "anti-semite" in the US media. She explained that while she was not an expert on the situation in Gaza, she was aware of the complexity of it and that by signing the letter she was pointing out her wish that there be peace between both Israel and Gaza.
Now the criticism and condemnation is over, 40-year-old Cruz has been honored with the title of "sexiest woman alive" in 2014 by Esquire, following in the footsteps of such beauties as Scarlett Johansson, Halle Berry, Rihanna, Angelina Jolie and South African actress, Charlize Theron. She graces the cover of the upcoming magazine, which can be seen here, in all her glory, and the November copy will hit the newsstands on October 21.
The writer for Esquire, Chris Jones, described Cruz as "impossibly beautiful" and that she has "no physical flaws." However, Cruz herself says she certainly doesn't feel that way. She told Esquire she feels more like “a mother who doesn’t get enough sleep,” running after and caring for her two small children, the most recent being their daughter Luna, born in July 2013, who joined the couple's three-year-old son, Leonardo.
Despite the fact that Cruz received an Oscar for her role in the Woody Allen movie, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, she has never achieved huge success in Hollywood, but is still serious about continuing her acting career. Cruz and her famous husband and fellow actor, Javier Bardem, met back in 1992 when they both starred in a Spanish comedy film, "Jamon, Jamon." However, details of the family's private life is kept strictly away from the media.
