Review: Joel Crouse delivers on new 'Even the River Runs' album Special

Country newcomer Joel Crouse released his highly-anticipated debut album "Even The River Runs," via Show Dog-Universal Music, on August 19 and it is a solid collection of songs.

It opens with his latest single, the upbeat "Don't Tell Me," which has a country-rock vibe to it, and it breaks into his lead single "If You Want Some," where his vocals are smooth and reminiscent of John Mayer.
"You Could Break a Heart Like That" shows Crouse's ability to nail a ballad, and it continues with the mid-tempo "Summer Love."
His vocals on "Slow Motion" are lilting and "Ruby Puts Her Red Dress On" is melancholic, yet he sings it delicately.
My favorite tune is "Oh Juliet," which is upbeat and a great deal of fun, and for anybody that has seen Crouse live, he does a killer acoustic version of this songs in his shows. It is very radio friendly and it deserves to become a single at some point in the future. "Oh, Juliet, you're so beautiful and yet, I don't have the heart to break your heart, I can't believe I'm saying this, cause I can almost taste your kiss," Crouse sings.
It closes with the soothing "Why God Made Love Songs," which is a favorite in his live shows, as well as the authentic, piano-driven "I Never Said I Was In Love," where the male narrator tackles his commitment issues in a relationship.
The Verdict
Joel Crouse's debut CD was worth the long wait. It garners 4 out of 5 stars. The only downside is that there are only 10 tracks on there (would have loved for there to have been at least 14), but hopefully he will release more new music in the future, whether it is in EP forms or as radio singles.
