America's Pre Game Show on Fox Sports 1 first announced that Jon Jones was injured and would not be able to compete on the September 27th date that he was set to fight. Instead the fight will take place on January 3rd of next year.
Jones was first scheduled to face Alexander Gustafsson on September 27th, but due to an injury was replaced with Cormier.
The fight with Jones and Cormier has been heating up the past couple of week's; with both fighter's sharing choice word with each other, and even breaking out in a fight at a press conference a few weeks ago. And now with the world having to wait a few more months for the two men to collide the rivalry could potentially get even more heated.
Daniel Cormier is coming off a very dominate victory against UFC veteran Dan Henderson this past May. Cormier completely out muscled Henderson, tossing him around, completely controlling the fight on the ground. Cormier used his size and weight advantage to tier and control Hendersont the whole fight, which lead to him defeating Henderson via rear naked choke in the third round.
Jones is also coming off a very dominant victory in which he dominated Glover Teixeria. Jones dominated with his striking, and was able to land clean elbow shots at will. Jones went on to win the fight by unanimous decision.
As the world waits for Jones and Cormier to clash on January 3rd it looks like the UFC will move the co-main event for UFC 177, Demetrious Johnson vs Chris Cariaso (for Johnsons Flyweight title) to replace Jones vs Cormier at UFC 178.
