The identical twin duo of sisters is signed to Warner Brothers Records.
As Digital Journal reported, they played a delightful radio show at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York, on July 26, as part of Fresh 102.7 FM's annual "Fresh in the Park" series. "We're happy to be here!" Sara exclaimed. "It's always terrific to play with artists we really enjoy and perform for fans who are excited to see us."
They shared the Eisenhower Park stage with singer-songwriter Christina Perri, who also put on a fantastic performance, similar to Tegan and Sara. "Christina seems like a really amazing girl. We met her a few months ago at a Billboard Women in Music event. She's got a terrific voice and we are honored to be sharing the stage with her."
Their single "Closer" from their latest critically-acclaimed studio album, Heartthrob, was a smash hit, propelling them to pop super-stardom. "We had high hopes for the single and to have a pop hit 14 years into our career feels like a really amazing accomplishment! We are glad that people enjoy the song," Sara said.
This year, they secured several wins at the Juno awards, which is Canada's highest music honors. "We spent many years working, writing and touring in order to build a fan-base that would help us sustain a career for a very long period of time. Winning Junos this year felt like the industry acknowledging all the hard work that went into this album and the effort that we've put into our long career, so it was really warm and wonderful!" Sara exclaimed.
The singer added, "Obviously we believe in the music that we've made and are proud of what we've accomplished, but it's really the longevity of our career that we are most proud of. Of course that's due in part to a very supportive audience who has allowed us to change and developed over many different albums."
Regarding their plans for the future, she shared that there will be more recording. "We're wrapping up this album cycle and thoughts about the next record have started to surface. It's always exciting," she said.
When asked about their dream collaboration choices, she responded, "We have felt very honored to collaborate with so many different kind of artists over the years in rock, hip-hop and electronic music. I just look forward to continuing to stretch and surprise people with future collaborations."
Growing up in Calgary, Alberta, they listened to the music that was enjoyed by their parents and grandparents, which included 70s and 80s rock music, as well as old-school country artists such as Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison. "Specifically, artists like Bruce Springsteen and U2 stand out for me," Sara recalled. "Of course as teenagers we then became very interested in the culture of 90s rock music, with bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana and The Pixies."
