The CFL returns to an old market this season with the expansion Ottawa Redblacks. In the draft to set up the club the quarterback they got was the veteran star Henry Burris. The team got together in April for workouts and Burris loves what he saw.

“It was a great opportunity for us not only to build our team on the field, but also get to know guys off the field,” he said this week of the April 9 and 10 mini-camp, held in Richmond, Virginia.
“I can tell you one great thing: not only did Marcel (Desjardins, team general manager) and the gang bring in a bunch of great players on the field, but also great people. To me, the number one characteristic of building a winning team, a great organization, is making sure you have a great relationship in the locker room."
Burris is one of the more astute quarterbacks in the CFL and one of the nicest players in the game. The 38-year-old has won the Grey Cup twice, both times during his long tenure with the Calgary Stampeders, in 1997 and 2008. He's also played with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and had brief stints in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers (didn't play in a game) and the Chicago Bears (six games, three TD passes).
The Redblacks roster was in part created at an expansion draft in December. The team took three players from each of the 8 CFL teams for a total of 24 players. They have also landed players from drafting college players and signing free agents. Other veterans on coach Rick Campbell's team include Malik Jackson, Jason Pottinger, Paris Jackson and Anton McKenzie.
Obviously as an expansion team they are going to have a hard road but their quarterback believes they have the tools to become a winning team. “This is going to be a great group of guys that are going to work hard together, sacrifice, do things that it’s going to take for us to have success on the field," he said.
The team's first regular season game is in Week 2 of the CFL 2014 schedule when they travel to Winnipeg to play the Blue Bombers on July 3. Their inaugural home game is not until Friday, July 18 when they host the Toronto Argonauts.
