Reuters points out that this comes as there is renewed concern in the west that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has failed to surrender his entire chemical weapons program as a Russian-brokered United Nations Security Council resolution, the terms of which he consented to abide by, compelled him to do.
The Syrian regime has dubbed these allegations as simply another part of the western powers "childish" policies leveled against the Syrian president.
Syria was recently alleged to have used chemical weapons again recently and is also, as part of the U.N agreement, shipped out a reported 75-80% of its weapons. It recently gave a more detailed list of what it has in its stockpile after inspectors on the ground found inconsistencies between the regimes claim and the reality on the ground.
Al Jazeera has even gone as far as to quote one western diplomat saying there is reason to believe that Syria is still hiding a "substantial" part of its chemical weapons stockpile.
Diplomats even claim that they have long harbored the suspicion that this was the case but did not speak up because of a fear that Assad would have an excuse to stop cooperating with international efforts to dismantle the stockpile his regime has declared and is in the process of surrendering.
