The duo is made up of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney. They are signed to Warner Music Nashville, which is home to such artists as Blake Shelton, Cole Swindell, Charlie Worsham, Sheryl Crow, among others.
They are off to a good start. They made their debut on the hallowed Grand Ole Opry stage on February 1, and they scored a 2014 Academy of Country Music (ACM) nomination for "Vocal Duo of the Year," which is quite impressive. They are nominated along with Florida Georgia Line, Thompson Square, Love and Theft, as well as Big & Rich.
"19 You + Me" is already a Top 15 hit on both the Billboard Hot Country Airplay charts, as well as the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. They co-wrote the song with producer Danny Orton. It is melodically stunning and it features catchy acoustic instrumentation. Their music video was filmed in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, which they make an allusion to in the song's lyrics.
The Verdict
Dan + Shay's vocals are soothing, heartfelt and reminiscent of Gary LeVox, the lead singer of Rascal Flatts, coupled with the soaring harmonies of country duo Love and Theft. This new song garners 5 out 5 stars. If they keep this pace up, they will become the next big thing in country music.
