MLB Rumors: Ervin Santana to LA Angels?

Posted Jan 26, 2014 by Larry Seely
With the start of spring training getting closer, MLB teams have fewer options in the free agent market and those clubs looking for help could get into a bidding war for the remaining veterans available.

It was a rough start for the rookie as he gave up a 10 runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings including seven runs and seven hits in the second inning alone

Ervin Santana is one of those players and the 31 year-old has yet to sign. The veteran starting pitcher was hoping for a new contract worth around $100 million, but nobody is coming close to those figures and the only chance he now has to sign for the kind of money he wants, is to add another year or two onto a contract.
One team rumored to have interest is his former team, the LA Angels, who need more depth in the rotation. The Angles already traded away power hitter mark Trumbo for two young arms, but this team has spent too much money over the last two years to rely on youngsters and adding another veteran to the staff would help increase their chances of competing with the other three teams in the AL West.
Santana had enough success when he played in Southern California before, to expect a comfortable return. Los Angeles is hoping the hitting is better this season and if this club can rebound from a poor 2013, this could become the team to beat in the West and a dark horse for the best team in the MLB this season.
