According to Huffington post, on Thursday a Facebook engineer said that the site has informally experimented with the 'Sympathize' button. during a recent hackathon.
According to The Atlantic, the button makes sense because "like" is the only way Facebook users can let others know that they saw something without sharing or writing something. There are some instances in which a user wants to click like, even if they do not strictly like something.
According to CNBC, Hackathons have been a big tradition at Facebook, and some of the best ideas have came from hackathons, a Facebook spokesperson said.
As of now the company has no plans on rolling out a 'Sympathize' button, but it has not ruled it out.
